FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Where do studio sessions take place?

A: Your studio session will take place in my private, lofted and airy studio in Kingston, PA.  We share a building with Shakti, Shooze, and other businesses.  The studio is fully stocked with props, drops, and outfits, and the music, drinks, and snacks will keep you comfortable throughout your session.

Q: Do you have mini sessions?

A: Mini-sessions vary and run seasonally.  Mini-sessions are never guaranteed to be repeated, so if you like a specific type of session being offered, book when available.  I never do exactly the same thing twice!

Q: Can you come to our house/location?

A: I will be happy to do sessions in-home (smoke-free households only, please) or on location.  Additional fees may apply, so please reach out and I’d be happy to discuss your vision.

Q: Can I include my pets in the portraits?

A: Most likely!  This is a hard one and something I do case by case.  Well trained dogs and pets that don’t risk the safety of my clients, myself, and my studio are welcome to come in with my prior approval.  I am also happy to come to pet-friendly (smoke-free only) homes and do family shots that include your fluffy, scaley, or feathery friends.

Q: What should I wear/how do I prepare?

A: When you schedule your session, I will walk you through everything from what to wear and how to best prepare for your day.  No outfit choice is perfect for everyone.  It’s important to show your style while also dressing for the best shots possible.  I am always available by text to answer styling questions, as well.

Q: Is shooting in the studio better than shooting outside?

A: Sometimes!  Having my studio space allows me the ability to provide you with consistently beautiful images, even if it’s raining, excessively hot, blistering cold, or incredibly blustery.  Outdoor, natural light photography can give incredible portraits.  Honestly, it is my first love, but it requires more flexibility due to weather and light conditions.

If you are a person who needs to be able to stick to a date and time for your photos, the studio is definitely the best choice for you.  If you are able to be flexible, the ethereal beauty that only outdoor provides is a wonderful choice.

Q: What kind of products do you sell?

A: At the current time, I sell my digital work exclusively in the form of digital downloads.  In the future, I will be moving to a print and product sales model, with digitals as an added benefit.  If you have questions about this, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Q: Are you up to date on all your vaccinations?

A: Yes!  All of my vaccinations, listed below, are up to date. Tdap (Whooping cough, Tetanus, & Diphtheria), Flu, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, MMR (Measles, Mumps, & Rubella), and Varicella (Chickenpox).

Q: Do you do maternity portraits?

A: Maternity portraits are exclusively available for clients who book newborn sessions.  For details about maternity and newborn combination sessions, please visit our Newborn Services page.

Q: When should newborn portraits happen?

A: The ideal age to get that still curled-up newborn portraiture is 5-10 days old, which is when they are still flexible but newborn acne has not yet set in.  Newborn poses can be done within the first 3 weeks of life.  After 3 weeks, infant pictures are still absolutely able to be accomplished and precious (especially in props!), but most of the “curly” poses that many come to expect of newborn portraiture cannot be safely accomplished.

Q: When should I book newborn sessions?

A: Newborn sessions are best booked in the first or second trimester of pregnancy.  This way you can be assured a spot in my calendar.  I take a limited amount of newborns per month, so booking early is recommended.

Q: How do I book without knowing my session date?

A: Your due date will be your session date so that we can be sure that you are on my calendar for that month. Once your baby is born and you are ready to go home, all you have to do is send me an email or text, and from there we’ll schedule a definitive session date and time within the first 5-10 days of your baby’s arrival. Once you book your newborn photo shoot session, I’ll send you a detailed email with all the information you need to know including scheduling once the baby is here, what you can expect from your session, how to prep yourself and your baby, and other helpful insights and tips.

Q: Can I incorporate siblings and parents in my newborn session?

A: Absolutely! Your newborn session includes images with siblings and parents/legal caregivers.  Any additional family members will be an extra charge, and/or may require a separate session to include extended family.  Additionally, I ask that siblings are in the studio for their portion of the sessions ONLY.  I love the little ones and encourage play, but the tiniest clients tend to startle easily.  Because of this, we need the environment to be kept as calm as possible.

Q: How long will my newborn session take?

A: A full newborn session takes around 3 hours.  Sessions are very relaxed with a comfortable and calm atmosphere for baby, as such, the pace of our session will be determined by the baby.  During the session you are free to watch the session on the baby monitor, take a nap, catch up on texts and emails, walk down to the Starbucks, or whatever else you may need.

Q: My baby is already born, am I too late to schedule a newborn session?

A: I am happy to accommodate you if I have an opening in my calendar.  If your baby comes in past the past the three-week mark, please expect that not all poses will be what you may traditionally think as newborn poses, and the session may take a little longer than normal.

Q: Who supplies all the props and outfits for the baby?

A: I do!  You don’t have to worry about bringing anything besides your little one.

Q: What is the best time for baby portraits? What is a sitter session?

A: The best time for older baby portraits is when baby can hold her or his head up and sit up unassisted.  So, about halfway through baby’s first year, we do something called a “sitter session”.  In these sessions, baby can sit up and is alert with eyes open, and has those squeezable baby rolls and toothless smiles.
